A sneaker partnership that has undoubtedly secured a place in the streetwear hall of fame, the adidas and Kanye West partnership has been responsible for some of this decade's bestselling trainers. From the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 to the Yeezy Boost 700 (and every style in between), Mr West definitely has an eye for creating kicks that are an irresistible addition to your shodrobe. Stylish, yes, easy to lace? No. The Yeezy 350 V2 is notoriously difficult to tie and is designed with particularly tricky laces. Slightly slippery and a little too thick, the laces on the 350s have a habit of constantly coming undone so we're going to let you in on some little tips and tricks to ensure you can walk down the street without your laces flapping about!

We know, tying the laces on your Air Jordans, Off-Whites, Air Maxes and adidas shoe is easy as one, two, three. The simple loop, swoop and pull method works for most of these silhouettes, but you have to remember that these sneakers are crafted with classic laces. The laces on your Yeezys are different; they're made from unique fibres (some of which glow under light) and have a thicker composition than the laces in your Dunks.

How to Lace Yeezy Boost 350 V2s

Since its advent back in 2016, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 has seen worldwide success thanks to Kanye West himself, the Kardashian crew and streetwear icons alike. A flexible, lightweight sneaker that was designed with adidas' exclusive Boost cushioning, this sneaker is meticulously crafted with a knit upper and relaxed laces. As we've already mentioned, this kick can be a little tricky to lace! In order to get the most secure fastening possible, we need to take cues from the man himself, Mr West. When wearing his 350s, West opts for the factory knot. Easy, secure and our of the ordinary, this lacing method is your best bet and here's a step by step of how to do it:

  • 1: With the shoes unlaced, slip on your Yeezys so they fit how you like
  • 2: Pull both laces a little to tighten the fit
  • 3: Holding both laces together, pinch the ends of the laces
  • 4: Wrap both laces around two fingers, creating a loop
  • 5: Pull the ends of the laces through the loop to create a standard knot

When laced in a factory knot AKA DS Knot (deadstock knot), your Yeezy Boost 350 V2s will fit like a dream and you'll be able to wear them without any worry that they'll come loose. Tried and tested by our Content Manager here at The Sole Womens she said: "someone in the office actually taught me how to factory lace because my laces just KEPT coming undone and it was winding me right up. Since factory lacing them, I can even wear them on my run and they don't come loose. It really is a game changer!" So, there you have it - make like Yeezy and our in-house team and factory lace those gorgeous Yeezy Boost V2 Black kicks and you'll never look back.

How to Lace Yeezy Boost 700s

The Yeezy Boost 700 made its debut back in 2017 and boasts a completely different vibe to the iconic Yeezy Boost 350. A chunkier silhouette made with more premium materials, most Yeezy 700s are expertly crafted from a mixture of plush suede, luxe leather and ultra-breathable mesh. Fitted with adidas Boost cushioning for comfort and enhanced performance, this sneaker effortlessly bridges the gap between fashion and function. Fitted with easier-to-tie laces that are more similar to those you'd find on a Jordan 1 or UltraBoost, the Yeezy Boost 700 is easy to lace in a classic bow.

A Social Media Manager at TSW HQ said about her 700s: "my Yeezy Boost 700s are hands down some of the comfiest sneakers I own! They have a thicker sole which is fitted with Boost cushioning (arguably the comfiest cushioning in the world), and I would say they're actually a bit comfier than 350s - they're low-key really good running shoes. I usually tie my 350s in a factory knot but that's not really necessary with 700s because the laces are way more secure. I either tuck them down the sides of the shoe, or I do a classic bow! Easy peasy."

To create the perfect bow, follow these easy tips and tricks:

  • Make sure both sides of the laces are even! You can do this by removing the laces completely then threading them back through, making sure they're of equal lengths at every eyelet
  • To ensure a more secure fastening, double knot the bow. After you've looped, swooped and pulled, tie the two "bunny ears" together to create that double knot
  • If you use the "bunny ears" method to tie your shoes - that's creating a loop on each lace then tying those together, you'll have a looser knot. To get the more secure fastening, loop one lace, wrap the other lace around it and pull it through the gap! Then you can tie the bunny ears

How to Lace Yeezy 500s

One of Ye's more recent designs, the Yeezy 500 is one of the brand's first sneakers that doesn't utilise adidas Boost cushioning. Fans of the brand claim that the new cushioning in this shoe is just as good as Boost and it remains to this day one of the Chicago-born rappers most comfy kicks! The upper on this shoe bears some resemblance to the 700 with a mixture of suede and mesh, while underfoot, a unique midsole in a "bubbly" shape creates a really modern vibe. Of course, Kanye West is known for his futuristic designs and penchant for streetwear, and the 500 silhouette covers every base. Unique but endlessly wearable, the 500 silhouette is fitted with laces that are very similar to those woven into the Boost 700.

Much like the 700, the best way to tie the Yeezy 500 is a usual bow!

So there you have it. Whether the Yeezy Boost 350 v2 'Israfil' colorway is your favourite sneaker of all time, the Zebra iteration is your weekend go-to or you're a fan of the cream white colourway, the best way to tie the laces is in a factory knot lacing style. For the Yeezy Boost 700, a standard bow is best and the 500 follows suit. If you don't like a bow to sit atop your kicks, tucking the laces in is your best option! However, this can sometimes get a bit irritating as they tend to wiggle their way out after a few minutes of walking. A cool way around this is to tie the bow and tuck it underneath the tongue - this way, the shoe feels nice and secure but the bow is neatly away from view.
